Comping Privacy Policy

Comping ("the extension") helps resellers check what similar items have recently sold for on eBay, while viewing a product on any other website.

What Comping stores, and where

Everything Comping stores lives only on your own device, in the browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local / chrome.storage.session). None of it is transmitted to, or stored on, any server operated by Comping — Comping has no backend server at all.

Specifically, Comping stores:

• The list of sites you've chosen to disable via "Don't show on this site again"
• A count of how many eBay lookups you've made today, to enforce the free daily limit
• Whether you've already seen the one-time introductory tooltip
• A short-lived (5-minute) local cache of eBay sold-price results, so repeat lookups for the same item don't re-fetch unnecessarily

What Comping sends to eBay

When you check an item, Comping's background script sends a search query — derived from the product name on the page you're viewing — directly to eBay's own servers (ebay.com, or the regional eBay site matching the item's currency) to retrieve sold-listing prices. This is equivalent to you searching eBay yourself; eBay's own privacy policy governs that request and whatever eBay does with it.

Some links to eBay (e.g. "View sold listings on eBay") may include eBay Partner Network affiliate tracking parameters. Clicking them takes you to eBay's site under eBay's own privacy policy and terms.

What Comping reads from the pages you visit

To detect a product's name and price, Comping's content script reads structured page data — JSON-LD product markup, Open Graph/meta tags, and (on Amazon product pages specifically) known price/title page elements. This happens entirely inside your browser. None of it is transmitted anywhere except as the search query sent to eBay described above. Comping does not read page content on banking, email, or webmail sites, and does not run at all on pages you've opted out of.

What Comping does not do

• No account creation, no sign-in
• No collection of personal information, browsing history, or page content on any external server
• No analytics or usage tracking of any kind at this time
• No sale or sharing of data with third parties, because no data leaves your device in the first place (aside from the eBay search query itself)

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as Comping's features change. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
